Depending on the chronicity and severity, childhood, physical, sexual, emotional abuse and/or neglect result in significant risk to both our mental and physical health. Developmental trauma effects may include:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Self-harming
  • Feeling a lack of identity
  • Sexual difficulties and disorders
  • Feeling ‘spaced out’
  • Relationship difficulties such as difficulties with trust and intimacy
  • Low self-esteem

ThereĀ are a range of therapies used to work with the adult effects of abuse, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), schema therapy and compassion-focused therapy, which our therapists are trained to work in.
