Depending on the chronicity and severity, childhood, physical, sexual, emotional abuse and/or neglect result in significant risk to both our mental and physical health. Developmental trauma effects may include:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Self-harming
- Feeling a lack of identity
- Sexual difficulties and disorders
- Feeling ‘spaced out’
- Relationship difficulties such as difficulties with trust and intimacy
- Low self-esteem
ThereĀ are a range of therapies used to work with the adult effects of abuse, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), schema therapy and compassion-focused therapy, which our therapists are trained to work in.
